What it does
CLO is a garment-design application for fashion designers and pattern makers. Join flat pattern pieces, simulate fabric around an avatar and inspect stretching before developing a physical sample. Individual users can start a 14-day trial, with an account and payment method required.
In the 3D window, Segment Sewing joins two selected pattern edges. Free Sewing lets you drag along part of an edge, finish that section with a double-click and pair it with another section. The sewing lines appear in both the flat pattern view and the 3D view.
Simulation then drapes the sewn garment using gravity and the chosen fabric properties. Normal mode favours speed, Fitting mode gives more precise fabric stretching, and Animation mode prioritises stable movement. CPU and GPU options are available, but trim collision and weight still require CPU simulation.
Read the fit
Hold the Fit Map button and select Strain Map, or use Alt+7. Its colours show how much the fabric stretches. Global mode uses a common scale across fabrics, with 100% meaning no stretch; Fabric mode uses each fabric's maximum stretch as its reference.
The Individual trial is for hobbyists, freelancers and one-person businesses. Select a monthly or yearly plan when registering. The trial converts to paid access after 14 days unless cancelled; businesses and institutions use a separate contact route.
Strengths
- Sewing connections appear in both the 2D and 3D views.
- Strain Map offers common and fabric-specific comparison scales.
Watch out for
- Trim collision and weight calculations use CPU simulation only.
- The Individual trial requires billing details and renews as a paid plan.
Best for
- Fashion designers developing garment fit
- Pattern makers comparing fabric behaviour
