What it does
Cloudflare Web Analytics provides real-user website reports, filters and performance dimensions. A Cloudflare account and JavaScript beacon can collect data without moving the site's DNS or hosting behind Cloudflare.
Cloudflare Web Analytics can measure a site without changing its DNS or moving it behind Cloudflare's proxy. It uses a browser beacon to report page use and observed performance, so its collection method differs from a server-log report.
Sign in to a Cloudflare account and open Web Analytics > Add a site. Enter the hostname and finish the setup. Under Manage site, copy the JavaScript snippet and place it before the closing body tag on the website's pages. Visits should appear after a few minutes. Sites already proxied through Cloudflare can use automatic injection instead, with separate collection settings.
The service is free. An account can track up to ten non-proxied websites, while proxied websites have no site-count limit. The dashboard aggregates at most 1,000 websites at once; selected-site views or the GraphQL interface cover larger reporting needs.
Analytics rules require a proxied site and an eligible paid zone plan. They are therefore a separate control from the free manual-beacon setup.
Strengths
- Works without changing DNS or using the Cloudflare proxy.
- Combines page usage with browser-observed performance reporting.
Watch out for
- Non-proxied tracking is limited to ten websites.
- Analytics rules require proxying and have plan-specific allowances.
Best for
- Website owners wanting a free browser-based measurement service
