What it does

CoinLore combines cryptocurrency rankings, exchange-market information and historical data with a free public API. The API needs neither registration nor an access key. It covers current tickers, coin metadata and daily price candles, with response limits that matter when building a larger dataset.

The CoinLore table places current price, recent changes, market cap, volume and distance from an all-time high beside each other. Use the ranking filters or open a coin's Exchanges/Markets and Historical Data links to move from a broad comparison to a specific asset.

Build a coin list without signing up

CoinLore's API is free and has no authentication step. Start with the lightweight assets list to map names and symbols to CoinLore IDs. Use that ID for an individual ticker, metadata or market lookup. A symbol alone is not the identifier expected by these requests.

For a ranked table, the tickers endpoint returns at most 100 coins per request. Set start and limit, then advance the starting offset to retrieve the next page. The response includes the total coin count, which helps determine when pagination is complete.

Other limits depend on the question: the coin-markets response covers the top 50 markets, while an exchange lookup returns its top 100 pairs. Daily OHLCV history provides up to 365 days of opening, high, low and closing prices plus volume. That is a daily-candle dataset, not a tick-by-tick trading record.

CoinLore recommends roughly one request per second for fair use even though it states no strict rate limit. Cache the reusable coin-ID list and choose the narrowest endpoint that supplies the data you need. The request examples and response-field descriptions cover several programming languages.

Strengths

  • Public API access requires no account, card or key.
  • Separate ID, metadata and market endpoints support focused data requests.

Watch out for

  • Ticker lists require pagination beyond 100 coins.
  • The published OHLCV endpoint covers 365 days of daily candles.

Best for

  • Developers prototyping a cryptocurrency price display
  • Visitors checking a coin across rankings and exchange markets
