What it does
CoinTracking organizes crypto imports into portfolio analysis, transaction checks and tax reports. Registration starts a seven-day trial; afterward, permanent free access only displays the existing portfolio, while further imports and tax reports require a paid plan.
Registration asks for a username and password, with email optional. During the trial, gather the full histories of the exchanges and wallets you want to reconcile. A current portfolio total alone cannot show whether an older acquisition or transfer is missing.
Use the Missing Transactions Report to inspect withdrawals and deposits that should match. Its confidence labels help separate strong matches from pairs that need attention. Different timestamps, deducted transfer fees or a missing side can all affect the match. Review the oldest unresolved warnings first so that an early gap does not distort later balances.
The Transaction Flow Report follows balances through individual events. Combine filters for the wallet or exchange, transaction type and date, or show only warnings. A negative balance flags activity to investigate; use the linked transaction to inspect its details. The before-and-after fiat values describe the balance at market prices, not the profit earned by that individual transaction.
Choosing a plan
Starter costs €39 or $49 per year for 200 total imported transactions. Pro is €129 or $169 annually for 3,500 and adds automatic synchronization. Limits count transactions across all years, while a paid plan can generate reports for multiple tax years. Two-year and lifetime purchase options are also offered.
The permanent free tier is more restrictive than the initial trial: it does not allow fresh imports or tax-report downloads. Check the report settings and the forms needed for your jurisdiction before choosing a paid tier.
Strengths
- Transaction-flow tables export to CSV, Excel or PDF
- Paid plans cover reports for more than one tax year
- Pro and higher plans include a separate source-of-funds report
Watch out for
- Historical transactions from every year consume the plan allowance
- An unmatched transfer may require checking both wallet and exchange records
Best for
- People tracing balance discrepancies through a long crypto history
- Users who need reports for several past tax years
