What it does

GMO Coin provides yen-based cryptocurrency purchases, recurring buying and exchange trading, with app and WebTrader access. Individual accounts require Japanese residency and a minimum age of 18. Identity checks are part of account opening, and crypto transfers have extra limits for customers under 20.

Age matters for crypto transfers

GMO Coin accepts individual applicants aged 18 or over who live in Japan. Customers aged 18 or 19 generally cannot deposit or send cryptocurrency until they turn 20; the guide names NAC lending as an exception. This restriction matters if the intended task involves moving assets to or from a personal wallet.

The account-opening flow has three stages: register an email and password, supply personal details and identification, then enter the account-opening code. Foreign nationals must submit a residence card or special permanent resident certificate through the supported verification route.

Charges vary by market

For BTC, ETH, XRP and DAI spot exchange trades, the schedule lists a maker rebate of 0.01% and a taker charge of 0.05%. Other listed spot assets use different rates. Ordinary yen withdrawals and crypto sends carry no GMO Coin transfer fee, while the large yen withdrawal route costs JPY 400. A sending bank or external platform can charge separately.

GMO Coin keeps its simple purchase service, exchange, recurring purchases and leveraged products separate. Crypto losses are possible, and leveraged trading can produce losses beyond the deposited margin.

Strengths

  • Ordinary yen withdrawals and crypto sends have no platform transfer fee

  • Leveraged products have additional carrying and liquidation charges
