What it does

Collmex provides browser-based bookkeeping for businesses based in Germany, with free and paid versions. Posting templates guide entries, while paid plans add adviser exports and, at the Basic level, bank imports and fuller financial reports.

Collmex uses posting templates to guide the entry of different business transactions. Choose a template on the left of the booking screen, enter the document date and amount, and use Ändern to check or complete the entry before selecting Buchen. Posting is immediate. To correct a posted entry, open it through Buchungen > Buchungen anzeigen and select Stornieren, then enter the corrected booking.

Choose the bookkeeping version

Monthly prices are in euros before VAT.

Version Monthly price Main distinction
Buchhaltung Free €0 One administrator, posting templates and basic income/expense reporting
Buchhaltung Light €8.95 Adds custom accounts, the German income-surplus (EÜR) report and DATEV/CSV exports
Buchhaltung Basic €11.95 Adds balance sheet and profit-and-loss reports, bank imports, open items and asset accounting

Free is limited to 100,000 stored bookings and cannot be expanded. Light and Basic can add storage for €11.95 per additional block of 100,000 bookings, up to 500,000. Basic also permits extra users at €11.95 each per month.

Basic can connect to German online banking through FinTS/HBCI or import CAMT/MT940 bank-statement files. The imported date, text and suggested accounts become a booking worklist for review. Light and Basic let you export records to an adviser in DATEV format; Free does not include that export.

Request a trial and sign in with the access details sent by email. The paid products have a 30-day trial, and paid ongoing access must be activated. Charges are collected monthly by direct debit, with cancellation available at month-end. Collmex requires an internet connection and offers no local installation. It is designed for German businesses, rather than bookkeeping under other countries' rules.

Strengths

  • Offers a lasting free bookkeeping version with posting templates
  • Paid versions provide DATEV exports for an adviser
  • Basic supports bank-statement imports and asset accounting

Watch out for

  • Free has no DATEV or CSV export and cannot exceed its storage allowance
  • Bank imports and balance-sheet reporting require Basic
  • Only suitable for businesses based in Germany and needs internet access

Best for

  • Small German businesses entering their own books and sharing records with an adviser
  • German sole traders choosing between basic free records and paid EÜR reporting
