What it does
Colormind generates five-colour schemes using models trained on photographs, films and artwork. Lock an existing colour to keep it in the palette while generating the remaining swatches. Its separate developer interface supports palette requests with chosen input colours.
Select a swatch, set a colour and lock it, then choose Generate. With no locked swatches, Colormind starts a new palette. Position matters: putting two fixed colours at opposite ends asks for intermediate colours, while placing contrasting colours together can produce different relationships.
The featured models change daily. Developers can request palettes through the API, a programmatic interface, using default or ui, or a currently available themed model. Unknown input positions are marked with N; results return RGB colour values.
API access is free for personal and non-commercial use. Commercial applications require contacting the creator. The examples also warn that supplied input colours can shift slightly in the returned result, so an integration should not assume exact preservation.
Strengths
- The generator can complete a palette around selected colours.
- Developer requests support partial palettes and named models.
Watch out for
- Commercial API use requires arranging terms with the creator.
- API results may slightly change the supplied input colours.
Best for
- Designers expanding an existing colour into a palette
- Developers prototyping non-commercial colour-generation tools
