What it does

Colors Live brings layered painting to Nintendo Switch with a pressure-sensitive SonarPen. Colors Quest supplies daily exercises, and the online gallery includes painting playback.

Brushes, opacity, blending and an eyedropper support drawing on a canvas up to 2560 by 1980 pixels, with ten layers. That ceiling sets the working size before detailed painting begins.

Export a still image or timelapse to the Switch image gallery. Community playback also reveals the sequence of marks behind a finished painting.

Digital and cartridge packages bundle the software with a SonarPen, which needs neither batteries nor Bluetooth. The Patron package additionally lists access to a Windows beta.

Strengths

  • Pressure-sensitive painting uses the bundled pen
  • Still images and timelapses share the same export destination

Watch out for

  • Canvas size and layer count are capped

Best for

  • Painting practice on Nintendo Switch
