What it does
ColorSnapper 2 is a Mac colour picker with a magnifying glass, history and favourites. It adjusts colours through Apple’s colour panel and formats them for CSS, Swift, Android and other code. Pro adds LCH editing and modern CSS colour outputs as a one-time upgrade.
Invoke the magnifier with a global shortcut, move to the desired pixel and choose an output format. Hi-Precision mode increases magnification and slows pointer movement. Arrow keys move one pixel at a time; holding Shift moves ten. Press P to copy the magnified image itself.
Favourites keep recurring colours close at hand, while the history lets you return to an earlier sample. The format filter helps find the appropriate code representation before pasting it into an editor.
Colour management needs attention
ColorSnapper converts sampled native-app colours through the monitor profile to sRGB. Adobe applications use their own document colour management, which the picker cannot fully account for. Compare values with the original document when exact numbers matter.
The current application requires macOS 14.6 or later. A 14-day trial is available; paid licences have activation limits, and moving to another Mac may require deactivating the previous installation.
Strengths
- Pixel movement and precision mode help target small details
- Output syntax can follow the destination code style
- Favourites and history support repeated sampling
Watch out for
- Adobe document colour management can affect sampled values
- Moving a licence can require deactivating an earlier installation
Best for
- Mac developers transferring screen colours into code
