What it does

Contrast Foundry, also called CoFo, publishes retail fonts and develops custom typography. Its catalog identifies scripts and variable versions, including a CoFo Sans Global collection that brings several language expansions together.

Start with the writing systems rather than a single Latin sample. CoFo Sans Global separates Armenian, Georgian, Devanagari, Hebrew and Arabic expansions from its other Sans, Pro and Mono families. The individual CoFo Sans page has style and size controls, an Open PDF-specimen link and a Try for free route. Its on-page character sample is labelled as reduced, so use the specimen for a fuller check.

The trial page offers a free one-year evaluation licence for complete families with the full character set. Select the families, accept the terms and subscribe to the newsletter to receive a download link. Trials are for testing and internal layouts; publication requires appropriate commercial coverage.

For purchase, select a bundle or styles and then Add License for the intended use. Most standard licences are paid once and last indefinitely, with upgrades when device counts or usage exceed the allowance; video can have duration or territory limits. Payer and Licensee can be different. A logo licence is issued to the brand owner and does not include files, so the designer also needs desktop coverage to create the artwork.

Strengths

  • Catalog entries distinguish scripts and variable availability.
  • Trial families include the full character set.
  • The FAQ explains payer, licence owner and client handoff differences.

Watch out for

  • Trials expire after one year and do not cover publication.
  • A logo licence does not supply font files or replace desktop coverage.
  • Video licensing can have duration or territory limits.

Best for

  • Latin and Cyrillic editorial systems
  • Multilingual identity and product typography
