What it does
Coolors brings palette generation, image colour extraction and contrast checking into one web toolkit. Build a scheme around a fixed brand colour, then export it for code, design apps or a presentation. Free access sits alongside a paid Pro plan.
Press the spacebar to generate a palette. Lock a colour you want to keep, then press it again to replace the other swatches. Drag columns to reorder them, or select a hex value to enter your own colour. The camera control opens Image Picker for starting from a photograph.
Take the palette into a project
Export choices include a shareable URL, an image, PDF, SCSS and Adobe Swatch Exchange (ASE). ASE carries the swatches into Adobe applications, while a PDF presents the colours and their variations.
Saving is separate from exporting: Save stores a named palette in your account, with tags and a project or collection. Free access includes advertising; Pro has additional tools and allowances.
Strengths
- Locked swatches remain in place while the rest of the palette changes.
- Exports support both design-application swatches and code-oriented handoff.
Watch out for
- Free and Pro have different feature allowances; the free service includes ads.
- A saved palette library uses a Coolors account.
Best for
- Developing supporting colours around an existing brand value
- Sharing a colour scheme with designers and developers
