What it does

CountAbout combines category and zero-based budgets with scheduled transactions, custom categories and account registers. It works on the web, iOS and Android, with a 45-day Premium trial and paid annual plans. Active US military members with a .mil email can receive a lasting free Basic plan; European customers are not served.

The projected register balance answers a timing question: what would the account contain on a future date if the scheduled transactions occur? Enter expected income and bills before using that view, then compare the schedule with the transactions that actually arrive.

Build an annual budget and inspect progress monthly and year to date. Basic supports manually entered records and QIF bank imports; Premium adds institution downloads and automatic category rules.

Separate logins for a shared budget

Open Settings > Manage Access to invite someone by email. Full Access lets that person manage transactions and accounts; Read Only lets them inspect balances, transactions and reports. Guest users do not need their own subscription. Invitations are unlimited, and the owner can revoke access and inspect login history.

Plans and extras

Receipt attachments cost an additional $15 per year. Invoicing can also be added to Basic or Military for $10 per year; online payment processing carries separate fees.

Signup uses an email address and password. The 45-day Premium trial does not require a payment card. Bank downloads depend on participating institutions, and CountAbout does not provide service to European customers.
