What it does
Cove is a free Bitcoin mobile wallet with coin selection, hardware-signing support and portable BIP329 transaction labels. Android and iOS users can create a local wallet or import a public wallet description for watching and hardware use. No account, email address or KYC is required.
Cove's BIP329 support helps carry labels between compatible wallets such as Sparrow. A mobile view and a desktop record can then describe the same received coins consistently, without relabeling each transaction.
Prepare on the phone, approve on the hardware
Import the compatible hardware wallet's public key or descriptor through a QR code, NFC or a file. This supplies the information needed to display balances and prepare a payment; it does not put the hardware's private key on the phone.
Cove can prepare a partially signed Bitcoin transaction, or PSBT, for the device to approve. Transfer that package to the hardware, review and sign there, then return the signed transaction to Cove. The supported transfer method depends on the device. A hot wallet is a separate setup choice in which the phone can sign.
Coin controls let the sender select, lock, search and sort individual unspent outputs, meaning the specific received coins used in a payment. Custom fee rates and fee warnings provide another control before broadcasting.
CSV transaction exports include historical fiat prices for recordkeeping. They are records to review, not a completed tax return. Users can also connect their own Electrum or Esplora service. The app uses an MIT licence; hardware purchases and Bitcoin network fees remain separate costs.
Strengths
- BIP329 labels can be imported and exported between compatible tools
- An optional encrypted cloud backup is supported with passkeys
Watch out for
- A public-key import alone cannot sign a payment
- Hardware transfer support depends on the selected device
- Cove covers on-chain Bitcoin rather than Lightning or other coins
Best for
- Bitcoin users maintaining consistent transaction labels on phone and desktop
- People selecting individual received coins or preparing hardware-signed payments
