What it does
Csound builds synthesis, audio processing and generative music from programmable sound units.
Combine a small set of opcodes to define an instrument, then control when and how it plays. The project documents several front ends and integrations, so the same sound engine can fit different composition workflows.
Choose the environment around the job: an interactive instrument, an exported plugin and an installation have different requirements. Csound's broad deployment list does not make every front end or external tool interchangeable. The source licence also remains separate from the rights to imported samples.
