What it does
Cambridge Digital Library brings together digitized cultural-heritage material from Cambridge and partner collections. Its images include manuscripts, maps, photographic material and scientific records with associated research context.
Search accepts exact phrases and wildcards, while item links can identify a specific image within a multi-page object. Save the page reference when preparing a caption or sharing a manuscript detail. The viewer’s information panel can be collapsed for a closer view.
Reuse depends on the individual item’s copyright and licence. For a supplied reproduction or new specialist photography, the Cultural Heritage Imaging Lab handles requests. A downloadable image and permission to publish it are separate questions, so use the item’s rights statement when deciding whether to request additional permission.
Strengths
- Images remain connected with collection descriptions and research.
- Page-specific references identify details within multi-page objects.
Watch out for
- Reuse permission varies by item and collection.
Best for
- Editors sourcing historical images with collection context
- Researchers citing a particular manuscript or map page
