What it does

Current combines spending activity, savings Pods and round-ups in a fintech account app. It supports cash deposits at participating retailers, with fees and limits distinct from electronic funding. Banking services are provided by Choice Financial Group and Cross River Bank.

Current’s savings Pods separate money for goals, and round-ups can move spare amounts into that savings workflow. Spending insights provide another view of daily account activity.

Adding cash at a shop

In the app, tap $ → Deposit Cash to find participating locations. At the retailer, choose View Barcode and show the live barcode to the cashier; a screenshot will not work. Each deposit costs $3.50. Limits are $500 per transaction, $1,000 per day and $10,000 per month. Cash cannot currently be deposited at an ATM.

The deposit-account schedule also lists $3.50 for an out-of-network ATM withdrawal, a $5 monthly inactivity charge after 12 consecutive inactive months, and a $10 account-closure fee. Foreign card purchases cost 3%, with a $0.50 minimum. These are separate from any optional credit or advance product.

Apply through the mobile app with your name, date of birth, U.S. residential address and Social Security number. Identification may be requested. The adult account requires age 18 or the relevant age of majority and eligible U.S. immigration status. It is owned by one person and cannot be used for business. A separate parent-managed Teen Account serves ages 13 to 17.

Current supplies the app rather than acting as the bank. Its disclosures name Choice Financial Group and Cross River Bank as banking providers; the debit deposit-account agreement specifically names Choice.

Strengths

  • Pods and round-ups support separate savings purposes.
  • The app locates cash-deposit retailers and generates the required barcode.

Watch out for

  • Each retail cash deposit has a fee and transaction limits.
  • The adult deposit account cannot be jointly owned or used for business.

Best for

  • Eligible U.S. customers separating savings goals within a mobile account
  • People who need to add occasional cash through participating shops
