What it does

Datatrans from Planet is an online and in-app payment gateway with acquirer connections, mobile integration kits and transaction reporting. It offers hosted pages, embedded card fields and custom checkout routes. A free test account is available; live use requires a Datatrans contract and an agreement with at least one financial partner.

For Redirect or Lightbox checkout, your server sends the amount, currency, order reference and accepted payment methods to initialize a transaction. Datatrans returns a transaction ID, which opens either a separate payment page or an overlay. The result goes to your server through a webhook, an automatic payment notification, while the customer returns to the success, cancellation or error address you configured.

Choose automatic capture during setup or capture an authorized payment later if the method supports it. You can cancel an unsettled transaction, refund a settled one or retrieve its current status. Payouts come from the financial partner, not directly from the gateway; their timing follows that partner’s agreement.

Plan Gateway charge Main distinction
Get Started Confirm the current quote Payment pages, payment links and email support
Scale Now EUR 20/month + EUR 0.25/transaction Adds mobile integration kits, saved-payment references and weekday phone support
Enterprise EUR 120/month + EUR 0.25/transaction Adds round-the-clock phone support and an enterprise service agreement

Planet acquiring is priced separately. The pricing page also flags a EUR 190 monthly minimum; obtain a quote showing how that minimum applies to the chosen gateway and acquiring arrangement.

Strengths

  • The reconciliation service matches gateway transactions with acquiring payouts and helps identify missing receipts or chargebacks.
  • Supported partial settlements let a merchant collect less than the authorized amount or split collection into stages.

Watch out for

  • A checkout transaction ID expires after 30 minutes and a new operation needs a new ID.
  • Redirect and Lightbox should not be wrapped in another iframe; on mobile devices, Lightbox switches to a full redirect.
  • Existing stored-card migrations are available only from 10,000 monthly transactions.

Best for

  • Developers maintaining online or native-app payment flows
  • Businesses choosing acquiring partners independently of checkout design
  • Merchants moving a substantial recurring customer base between gateways
