What it does
Daz Studio assembles 3D characters and scenes with the Genesis figure system. Its workflow includes altering shapes, clothing, hair and textures, with bridges to other 3D applications. Daz Studio is free to download with an account, while additional assets are sold separately.
Daz Studio starts with rigged figures and scene assets. Genesis shapes can be combined and morphed, clothing auto-fits the figure, and sliders adjust the character before posing or rendering. Daz Install Manager downloads and organizes content, while the store supplies additional characters, environments and props.
For a Blender handoff, select a character and use File > Send to > Daz to Blender with the Skeletal Mesh asset type. The receiving add-on imports the Genesis figure, clothing, hair and textures. Transfer is one-way; edits made in Blender do not return through the bridge. The bridge currently carries a compatibility warning for newer Daz Studio releases and lists support through Blender 3.6, so version pairing matters.
The core application is free and the download route requires an account and EULA acceptance. Store assets have their own licence scope: the standard terms allow commercial 2D renderings subject to product restrictions, while interactive use involving the underlying content requires the relevant additional licence. A free Studio download does not include ownership of the paid catalogue.
