What it does
DCP-o-matic creates Digital Cinema Packages from video, audio, and subtitle sources. It is a free open-source tool intended for filmmakers, projectionists, and festival workflows.
A film-festival submission or local cinema advert needs a cinema deliverable rather than an ordinary desktop playback file. DCP-o-matic combines the media components into that package. Review the cinema's actual delivery requirements before production, and arrange an appropriate playback check; creating a DCP alone does not establish acceptance by a particular venue.
Create a film project in a chosen local folder, add the video and run Jobs → Make DCP. The project folder includes working data as well as a separately named DCP directory containing XML and MXF assets; that DCP directory is the deliverable for cinema ingest. The manual identifies 24 fps video and 48kHz audio as the common DCI baseline, with other rates dependent on the projector. A 25-to-24 fps conversion can slow the picture and resample audio to keep sync, so matching the delivery frame rate affects timing as well as compatibility.
