What it does

DeepBook is Sui's central limit order-book infrastructure for spot trading and other market applications. Developers can integrate through Move modules or a TypeScript SDK, or read market data without signing transactions. Trading uses an onchain BalanceManager.

DeepBook is most useful to builders who need order-book liquidity inside an application. Choose the integration model first: Move contracts, TypeScript transactions or read-only market data. The last option can retrieve information without a trading manager or signed transaction.

The spot walkthrough takes a funded testnet wallet through creating a BalanceManager, depositing assets, placing a limit order, reading status and fills, cancelling and withdrawing. It also demonstrates a maker and taker fill on Testnet. Use that sequence to understand the lifecycle before adapting an integration for real funds. An accepted order can remain unfilled, so status and fill checks belong in the application.

Fees are configured per pool through governance. Read the maker fee, taker fee and staking requirement from the pool instead of hardcoding a general rate. Orders can pay fees in DEEP or the input token; choosing the input token costs 25% more than the DEEP-denominated fee. Certain whitelisted pools have no trading fee.

DEEP staking can reduce taker fees when both stake and volume conditions are met. Funding the BalanceManager for fees is separate from providing SUI for network gas. Margin and prediction-market integrations have their own documentation and requirements.

Strengths

  • Read-only integration does not require signed trades
  • Documented order, fill, cancellation and withdrawal lifecycle
  • Choice of DEEP or input-token fee payment

Watch out for

  • Fee parameters can change through pool governance
  • Trading integration requires managing balances and order state

Best for

  • Developers building Sui trading or market-data applications
