What it does

Axe DevTools is Deque’s accessibility-testing product family for web and mobile. It combines automated checks, guided tests and reports with integrations into browser and development workflows.

Install the browser extension, open the browser’s developer tools and select the axe DevTools tab. Run a Full Page Scan, expand a rule result and inspect the affected element. Each finding provides a location, source snippet and repair guidance; Highlight and Inspect connect it to the page.

A paid Partial Page Scan can restrict a check to an element selected with the mouse or keyboard. After a fix, Re-run checks the page again. Paid plans also add saved tests, guided checks, exports and shared reports.

The free extension includes full-page automated scanning and a choice of accessibility standard. Pro has a 14-day trial that requires an axe Account, followed by a paid subscription. Chrome and Edge support the paid extension features; Firefox has a limited version. Contact Deque for current paid pricing.

Automated findings help organize repairs, but Deque explicitly says they complement manual testing and do not replace screen-reader review.

Strengths

  • Findings link the affected element to a source snippet and repair guidance.
  • The selected accessibility standard can be changed in the free extension.

Watch out for

  • The product does not replace manual or screen-reader testing.
  • Paid extension features are available in Chrome and Edge, not Firefox.

Best for

  • Teams integrating accessibility review into UI development
