What it does
NSW Design System is a toolkit for New South Wales government digital experiences. It includes core styles, components, utility classes, Figma resources and methods for search, maps and Easy Read content. Its code is MIT-licensed, with public npm, CDN and starter-kit installation options.
The NSW system separates brand foundations, reusable components and task methods. Methods covers search and filters, maps, charts and Easy Read content. A blue diamond marks features required for NSW Government Masterbrand products, including several core styles and components.
Open For developers to choose npm, JSDelivr or the downloadable HTML starter kit. The npm route supports the whole stylesheet or core styles with selected components. Sass and CSS variables carry theme settings through the system. Some components also need JavaScript, so importing styles alone is not the full setup.
The library code is available under MIT, while the marked Masterbrand requirements still matter for government-branded products. Browser support covers the two latest versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox; browsers no longer maintained by their vendors are excluded.
Strengths
- Task methods cover search, maps and Easy Read content
- Masterbrand requirements are marked beside relevant features
- Installation supports selective styles or a compiled starter kit
Watch out for

- Unsupported vendor browsers are outside the support policy
Best for
- Teams creating New South Wales government interfaces
