What it does
MaxIm DL combines astronomical image acquisition, calibration, stacking and analysis, with tools for observatory equipment.
MaxIm DL can assemble calibration frames into groups, select the appropriate set for each image, then calibrate and stack the images. Keep the working result at an appropriate depth before making a display copy. Its help recommends 32-bit floating-point FITS for processed stacks, because processing can create fractional values or a wider range. Save As offers format and depth choices, and Auto Stretch can scale a result into a smaller range for an 8-bit image, but that permanently loses precision. For exchange with other software, the help also warns against its proprietary FITS compression. Product levels differ, so compare the included acquisition and analysis tools before buying.
