What it does
Digital Bodleian brings digitized portions of the Bodleian Libraries into a searchable portal with metadata and high-resolution viewing.
Search for the item, then inspect its metadata before using the image in research. The library makes only part of its holdings available online, so an unsuccessful search does not establish that it owns no relevant material. Follow the item’s stated access and reuse conditions when citing or reproducing it.
If the item is absent, try SOLO for print holdings or Bodleian Archives & Manuscripts for post-1500 archives. Those finding aids can locate material that the digitized-image portal does not contain.
Strengths
- Item-level metadata and high-resolution viewing
Watch out for
- Only a portion of the library’s holdings is digitized
Best for
