What it does
Dillo is a lightweight independent browser with a restrictive privacy policy, domain blocking and cookies disabled by default.
Dillo's manual is candid about the tradeoff: its default privacy policy can break website functionality. Cookies are off unless configured, and the browser does not implement JavaScript. That makes it more useful for reading compatible pages on a small system than for web applications that depend on scripts.
The manual also documents domain blocking and separate choices for session-only or persistent cookies. The project has moved to dillo-browser.org; the old dillo.org domain is no longer controlled by its developers.
Strengths
- Cookies disabled by default
- Configurable domain blocking
Watch out for
- No JavaScript support and incomplete modern-web compatibility
Best for
- Reading compatible pages with a deliberately small browser
