What it does
dismail.de provides free email as part of a community service focused on privacy and decentralization. It states that it operates without advertising, tracking, profiling or data mining.
dismail's free email can use webmail or an IMAP/SMTP client, but enrollment has extra steps. Registration currently requires an invitation link. A new account starts with email disabled; its service guide asks users to request activation from their own dismail XMPP account. Email and XMPP use different passwords.
The stated mailbox allowance is 2GB, with up to five aliases and 25MB attachments. Preserve credentials and important messages independently: the FAQ says forgotten passwords cannot be recovered or reset. It also acknowledges the operator's technical access and recommends end-to-end encryption for protected correspondence. This is a small community service whose continuity is not guaranteed by the presence of a mailbox.
Strengths
- Webmail and standard IMAP/SMTP access are documented.
- The operator publishes service and maintenance notices.
Best for
- People willing to use a small community-run email service
