What it does

DKB provides app and web banking for current accounts, payments and savings. Its joint account includes two Visa debit cards and separate logins, while each holder can operate the shared balance independently. The first current account’s monthly fee can be waived by age or qualifying incoming funds.

A DKB joint account gives two people a common balance without exposing their separate personal accounts. Each receives individual login details. Both can see the shared account and its cards, and either can use the balance or an agreed overdraft independently. Closing the account requires both holders.

Choose the joint-account option during the online application and enter both applicants’ details. Each completes a separate WebID video identification call. The bank then sends account documents and debit cards by post. An existing individual account cannot simply be converted into a joint one.

Monthly charges and active status

A first personal account is free with at least €700 of qualifying monthly incoming funds, or while the holder is under 28. Otherwise it costs €4.50 per month. A first joint account with the same person receives the age exemption if at least one holder is under 28. Older accounts opened before 14 September 2022 have a separate fee exemption.

Aktivstatus is another condition to understand: existing customers qualify through three consecutive months of at least €700 incoming, assessed monthly. It affects benefits such as worldwide card use. In the app, the status appears under the holder’s name in Profil; on the web it is under Profil → Mein Profil → Aktivstatus.

The app provides card and country controls, photo transfers and notifications. DKB also has a separate children’s account route, with child accounts shown to authorised parents alongside their own banking.

Strengths

  • Separate logins show shared accounts without revealing the other holder’s individual accounts.
  • App card controls cover transaction types and permitted countries.

Watch out for

  • Either joint holder can use the shared balance independently.
  • Individual and joint accounts cannot be converted into one another.

Best for

  • Couples or shared households managing common expenses
  • Customers able to meet the first-account fee-waiver conditions
