What it does

dnGrep is a Windows search tool for text, Office documents, PDFs and archives, with regex queries, previews and text-file replacement.

dnGrep can search mixed files, including Office documents, PDFs and archives, then show matches in a whole-file preview. Replacement has a narrower scope: it edits text files, not Word, Excel or PDF binaries. Inspect the preview before replacing. Undo restores files after a completed replacement and also rolls back other changes made since that operation, so it can remove later edits. Current releases list Windows 10, 11 and Server with bundled .NET 9; Windows 7 uses the older 3.2.330 release and .NET 4.8. The project also warns of possible Windows 11 Smart App Control incompatibility.
