What it does
dnsjit combines C and Lua modules into an engine for capturing, parsing, replaying and gathering statistics from DNS traffic.
dnsjit runs Lua scripts that join input, filtering and output modules around DNS messages. A supplied example opens an offline PCAP, decodes layers and prints DNS query IDs; the README explicitly limits that short example to preprepared captures containing UDP DNS traffic. Other module chains can gather statistics, export data or replay traffic to configured targets, including non-compliant messages. Setup depends on LuaJIT, libpcap and additional libraries, with architecture limits for some packages. The official GitHub repository is archived because development moved to Codeberg; DNS-OARC’s product page lists later releases. The software is GPL version 3 or later.
