What it does
DNS-OARC maintains dnsperf and resperf for measuring DNS latency and throughput with configurable query loads.
Prepare a query file that resembles the names and record types your server will handle, then supply the input file and target server to dnsperf. Its workload and latency reports support capacity comparisons; resperf instead increases the query rate while watching responses. The maintainer’s manual recommends separate client and server machines on a fast path so the load generator does not compete with the server for CPU. It positions dnsperf mainly for authoritative servers or caching servers in a closed lab, and prefers resperf for caching tests against the live Internet. Use the manual matching the installed build, and run load only against infrastructure you are authorized to test.
