What it does
DNS Statistics Collector gathers and aggregates data near busy nameservers, with tools for transforming the results into analysis and visualization systems.
Place the collector on or near the nameserver traffic you need to observe, then move its aggregates to central processing and storage. dsc-datatool can transform, merge and enrich those aggregates for an InfluxDB/Grafana workflow. This differs from retrieving individual DNS records or keeping a full packet archive. The collector requires libpcap; DNSTAP support needs an enabled build and extra libraries, while MaxMind enrichment is optional. DNS-OARC explicitly discontinues the old DSP and Perl presenter components. The archived GitHub repository points to Codeberg, where development continues. The publisher identifies BSD licensing.
Strengths
- Aggregation near the nameserver
- Documented modern visualization workflow
Watch out for
- Requires traffic visibility and a processing or visualization setup
