What it does
DNSDiag groups dnsping, dnstraceroute and dnseval for DNS response timing, query-path investigation and comparison of resolvers.
DNSDiag measures DNS requests rather than ordinary ICMP replies. Give dnsping a resolver, domain and record type for repeated timing, or give dnseval a resolver-list file to compare latency and loss with a consistent query. Counts and warmup handling help make comparisons meaningful. dnstraceroute investigates the request path, but its transport choices differ: the guide lists UDP, TCP, QUIC and HTTP/3, while dnsping and dnseval also offer TLS and ordinary DNS-over-HTTPS modes. Treat expert hints about unusual paths as leads to investigate. The BSD-licensed suite has Python installation routes and periodically published Windows, macOS and Linux binaries.
