What it does
DNSLeakTest provides a browser check intended to reveal DNS resolver use, with explanations of VPN-related leaks, encrypted DNS and transparent DNS proxies.
Compare the resolvers reported by the browser test with the DNS or VPN configuration you intended to use. The Standard mode performs 6 queries; Extended performs 6 rounds of 6, for 36 queries. The provider explains that a single configured service can pass requests among several backend resolvers, so several reported servers do not automatically mean several unrelated providers. Its leak guide also covers browser DNS-over-HTTPS choices and interception of ordinary port-53 queries by transparent proxies. This remains a finite sample of browser-triggered DNS activity. A matching resolver result does not establish anonymity for every application or every type of traffic.
Strengths
- Explains browser and system resolver differences
- Discusses transparent DNS proxies
Watch out for
- A DNS result does not assess every type of network traffic
