What it does
DOSBox-X emulates DOS applications and games, including environments for supported DOS-based Windows releases. It also supports DOS/V and NEC PC-98 use cases.
Use DOSBox-X when the software needs a more complete historical PC environment rather than only a quick game launch. The wiki is important for matching hardware and operating-system settings. This broader scope is a real distinction from gaming-focused DOSBox continuations, while installing old operating systems still requires permitted software.
