What it does
DuckDuckGo Email Protection is a free forwarding service that removes hidden email trackers and creates private addresses for an existing inbox. Signup is supported through DuckDuckGo browsers and desktop extensions.
Email Protection leaves mail in the inbox you already use. Its help page explains that messages sent to Duck addresses are forwarded after tracker removal, so there is no new archive to migrate into. Unique addresses can be created for different signups.
Getting started depends on the browser setup. The official instructions point mobile users to Email Protection in DuckDuckGo’s settings; desktop users can use a DuckDuckGo browser or supported extension. This is an address-forwarding and tracker-removal service. It should not be described as a replacement encrypted-mailbox provider.
Strengths
- Works with an existing email account.
- Unique addresses and tracker removal are documented.
