What it does

Dune gives analysts indexed blockchain tables, a browser SQL editor and tools for charts and dashboards. Its Data API runs queries and retrieves results, while Datashare supplies data to an existing warehouse.

Build a metric from the underlying tables

Dune's Data Hub workflow starts with an account and a SQL query. Choose raw, decoded or curated data, add parameters where needed, then run and save the query. Results can become a chart with configured axes and then a dashboard widget. Share the dashboard by URL or embed it elsewhere.

Analysts can also upload CSV data for joins, schedule query refreshes and export results. The API provides another route for executing queries, checking status and retrieving their output. Datashare serves teams that want the data in their own warehouse instead of working in Dune's editor.

Budget for execution and export

Free access is view-only. New accounts receive 2,500 trial credits for up to 14 days with Plus features; the trial ends when either limit is reached. Running queries after that requires a paid plan. Query execution, refreshes and exports consume credits, and monthly unused credits do not roll over.

Settings include per-query cost caps and limits on extra credit spending. API limits also depend on the operation and plan: Plus allows 70 requests per minute for write-heavy operations and 200 for read-heavy operations. The separate limits matter when designing a workflow that both runs queries and polls their results.

Strengths

  • Saved SQL queries connect directly to charts and shared dashboards.
  • CSV uploads can be joined with blockchain data.
  • Query cost caps and extra-credit limits provide spending controls.

Watch out for

  • Free access cannot run queries or use the API after the trial ends.
  • Monthly credits expire at the billing-cycle reset.

Best for

  • Analysts building custom blockchain metrics with SQL
  • Teams publishing dashboards or automating query-result delivery
