What it does

dYdX provides a wallet-linked interface for perpetual contracts and developer tools for market data, orders and positions. Traders choose market, limit or conditional orders and monitor margin exposure. REST and WebSocket interfaces support dashboards and trading integrations.

A dYdX limit order begins in the trade box: choose Limit, select Buy or Sell, then enter the total trade size and limit price. An order only fills at that price or better. Market orders use immediate-or-cancel behaviour, so any unfilled remainder is cancelled. The amount entered changes the position by that size; it is not the intended final position balance.

To require maker execution, open Advanced, choose Good Til Time and enable Post-Only. An order that would immediately take liquidity is then cancelled. This distinction affects the fee as well as execution.

The published base tier below US$1 million of trailing 30-day volume is 0.01% maker and 0.05% taker, before eligible discounts. Open Portfolio, then Fees, for the current schedule and personal tier. Default software charges filled trades, not cancelled orders or a separate trading gas fee. Funding and margin still matter for perpetual positions.

Onboarding connects and links a wallet before depositing; email or social login can create one through Privy. The frontend excludes the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and other restricted jurisdictions.

Developers can read indexer data and subscribe to WebSocket updates, while trading actions use authenticated node-side workflows. That separation is useful for dashboards that only need market or account information.

Strengths

  • Post-only control distinguishes maker execution
  • Portfolio Fees shows the applicable tier
  • REST and WebSocket tools for market and account data

Watch out for

  • Perpetual exposure requires margin and can be liquidated
  • Market orders may only partially fill
  • Frontend excludes several major jurisdictions

Best for

  • Eligible experienced perpetual traders and developers building dYdX integrations
