What it does
NormCap is a screenshot OCR tool that extracts text, QR-code and barcode information, with language models and heuristic handling of URLs or email addresses.
Select the recognition language and screen area, then paste the detected text from the clipboard. NormCap’s Parse Text mode can join paragraphs or turn detected addresses into lists; disable that transformation when the original line layout matters. If text and code detection are both active, finding a QR code or barcode skips text recognition. The FAQ says detection works offline, with optional update checks and language downloads making requests to GitHub; those exceptions should remain separate from screenshot processing. Prebuilt packages start with English, and screen-capture permissions may be required. The project is GPLv3 software for Windows, Mac and Linux, with Linux AppImage support deprecated in favor of Flatpak.
