What it does

EasyPost supplies shipping rates, labels, tracking and address verification through APIs, plus the Nexus dashboard for Shopify merchants. Wallet carriers use EasyPost’s negotiated accounts; an own-carrier plan connects existing contracts. The Wallet software allowance covers 3,000 labels per month, with postage paid separately.

EasyPost serves both developers adding shipping to an order system and Shopify merchants using the Nexus dashboard. In Nexus, connect the store, import its orders, compare carrier rates and buy labels. The dashboard also handles split and held Shopify orders.

Build an API label workflow

An EasyPost account supplies separate test and production keys. Create a shipment with the sender, recipient and parcel details, including weight in ounces. The response supplies rates; purchasing a chosen rate returns the label URL and tracking identifier. Negotiated rates are available only in production mode.

That distinction matters when preparing an integration: a test result does not establish the price available through the live carrier account. Additional services, such as insurance, have their own inputs and charges.

Carrier plans

Arrangement Software charging basis
Wallet carriers First 3,000 labels each month have no software fee; subsequent labels incur a charge
Bring Your Own Carrier Accounts Monthly fee plus a per-label charge
Enterprise Custom volume pricing

Postage is excluded from the free allowance. Tracking, advanced tracking and insurance have separate pricing. Wallet carrier billing is handled through EasyPost, while an own-carrier agreement retains direct carrier billing.

In Account Settings > Billing, use Manage beside the subscription to change the carrier plan. A notable UPS restriction is that one EasyPost account can use either the Wallet UPS account or its own UPS account, but cannot keep both types connected simultaneously.

Strengths

  • Nexus handles Shopify orders without requiring an API integration
  • The API returns rates, label files and tracking identifiers in a connected workflow
  • Wallet software access includes a recurring monthly label allowance

Watch out for

  • Own-carrier access has both recurring and per-label fees
  • One account cannot connect both Wallet UPS and its own UPS account
  • Postage and separately priced services are outside the free software allowance

Best for

  • Shopify merchants and developers connecting order data with shipping rates and labels
