What it does
EasyRGB connects numeric colour conversion with commercial colour-reference searches. Separate tools compare collections, find nearby named colours, create complements and convert values between colour spaces.
Choose the input colour space before entering values. XYZ and Lab data require the appropriate illuminant and observer, while RGB and CMYK use the site's D65/2° default. Conversion returns a swatch with equivalent numeric values, and saved colours can be brought back into the input fields.
To look for a commercial reference, choose a particular fandeck or search all collections. Results identify the nearest tints by name or code, collection, sRGB values and colour difference (ΔE). Matching converts data from other illuminant/observer settings to the collection's default, with a warning.
A nearest numerical result narrows the search for a material colour; a physical sample is still the basis for judging the final finish. The site also provides a separate mathematics reference for the conversion calculations.
Strengths
- Matching results retain the collection, reference code and colour difference.
- Saved values can move between conversion and matching tasks.
Watch out for
- Matching changes non-default illuminant/observer data to the collection's reference conditions.
Best for
- Designers comparing numeric colours with paint or other commercial references
