What it does

Ecwid adds ecommerce to an existing website or supplies a standalone Instant Site. Products, inventory and orders can be managed centrally across connected storefronts. Direct subscriptions have four capacity tiers; a separate Wix signup route offers a limited free store.

An established website can keep its existing pages and add an Ecwid shop. Products and orders are managed in one account even when the store appears on several sites. Alternatively, Instant Site provides a storefront and a company.site address.

Create the account with a name, email and password, or an offered Apple, Facebook or Google sign-in. Complete the business questions and choose the relevant plan. During setup, close the storefront to visitors if the catalogue is not ready.

Build a product visitors can buy

In Catalog > Products, remove the demonstration items with Delete All Sample Products. Choose +Add New Product, enter the name, description and price, then Save and Preview Product. Add shipping weight and a stock limit where relevant. A size or colour choice belongs in a product variation; duplicating a listing is useful for a separate item with similar details.

Configure a payment method under Payment and delivery charges under Shipping & Pickup. Review the customer-facing store before launch.

Match the plan to the signup route

Direct Ecwid subscriptions use monthly or annual billing:

Plan Catalogue limit Selected difference
Starter 10 products Embed a store or use Instant Site
Venture 100 products Adds digital goods
Business 2,500 products Adds two staff accounts and recurring product subscriptions
Unlimited Unlimited products Unlimited staff accounts

Businesses signing up through Wix have a different set of plans. That route includes a continuing Free plan with five products and two categories, billed through Wix for any paid upgrade. It supports the classic Wix editor, with legacy Editor X excluded.

Some social-shop and point-of-sale connections depend on the merchant's country. Ecwid itself charges no setup or sales transaction fee on its direct plans; payment-provider and third-party app costs remain separate.

Strengths

  • Can add commerce to an existing website without replacing its other pages
  • Central product and order management supports stores displayed on several sites

Watch out for

  • Product and staff allowances depend on the plan and signup route
  • Several social-shop and point-of-sale connections have country restrictions

Best for

  • Businesses adding a shop to an established website
