What it does

ColorNavigator is EIZO’s free calibration software for compatible ColorEdge monitors. It manages colour modes and adjustment targets, with scheduling, film emulation and programming features whose availability depends on the monitor, sensor and software version.

sRGB, Adobe RGB and Rec. 709 modes can be stored in the monitor and adjusted with ColorNavigator. Change modes through the monitor controls, the application or its taskbar icon; the corresponding ICC monitor profile, which describes its colour behaviour to compatible software, is activated in the operating system. Targets can be edited, calibrated and renamed.

All Standard Modes can be calibrated together. With a built-in calibration sensor, supported monitors can recalibrate on a schedule even when switched off; reminders are available for other routines. Adjustment targets stay in the monitor when a different computer is connected.

For film emulation, 3D lookup tables, or LUTs, are supported on CG-series models except CG2730 and CG2420. For print matching, manual target controls include primary/secondary colour hue and saturation plus grey balance.

The current European compatibility page lists Windows, macOS and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8/9. The appropriate release still depends on the exact monitor, sensor and operating system. Do not install ColorNavigator 6 and 7 together: running version 6 after creating targets in version 7 can make those targets disappear.

The API, a programming interface available from version 7.1.12, lets another application change modes, create targets, run or cancel SelfCalibration and retrieve results. The software is free; it still needs the supported display and measurement arrangement.

Strengths

  • Standard Modes can be calibrated together instead of one at a time.
  • Stored monitor targets remain available when the connected computer changes.

Watch out for

  • Compatibility depends on the monitor, measurement device and software release.
  • Film-emulation LUT support excludes CG2730 and CG2420.
  • Installing ColorNavigator 6 and 7 together can cause target-loss problems.

Best for

  • Design and post-production teams maintaining ColorEdge display targets.
