What it does
Eloquent JavaScript is an online programming book covering JavaScript, browser programming and substantial coding projects.
Read the language chapters in order if you are new to programming, then attempt a project before moving on. The contents connect functions, data structures, errors and asynchronous work with larger examples. This is the fourth edition, published in 2024. Its text uses a Creative Commons attribution-noncommercial licence, while the example code may also be used under MIT. The site links a sandbox and exercise solutions for checking work after an attempt.
