What it does
FairEmail is an open-source Android email client with OpenPGP and S/MIME support. It documents image and link confirmation, tracking-image detection and operation without third-party message storage.
FairEmail puts several privacy decisions in the reading workflow. Its documented controls let a user:
- Confirm before showing remote images or opening links.
- Use a safe message view that removes scripting and unsafe HTML.
- Configure standard OpenPGP or S/MIME correspondence.
The app attempts to detect tracking images as well. It explicitly excludes Exchange Web Services and ActiveSync, so a company relying on those protocols needs another route. S/MIME signing and encryption are listed among Pro features, making the selected plan relevant to certificate-based mail.
Strengths
- Image and link confirmation provide direct controls over remote content.
- OpenPGP and S/MIME workflows are documented.
- The project states that it uses no advertising, analytics or tracking.
Watch out for
- Exchange Web Services and ActiveSync are not supported.
- S/MIME signing and encryption are listed as Pro features.
Best for
- Android users who want fine control over email content and remote requests
