What it does
EPA Images supplies news photographs and video, sports coverage and multimedia essays. Its archive search supports keyword research narrowed by date, location, category, orientation and recency.
EPA’s search help describes AND, OR and NOT operators, wildcard searches and a choice between recently released material and the older archive. Combining an event with a date range and country can help separate current coverage from an earlier occurrence with a similar subject.
Captions carry restrictions that matter to the planned publication. The Basic License covers specified editorial uses for up to one calendar year; advertising or other work outside that scope needs a negotiated Custom License. A strong news photograph can therefore suit a report while still needing a different agreement for promotion.
Strengths
- Boolean operators and date/location filters support precise event research.
- Photos, video and multimedia essays provide several editorial formats.
Watch out for
- The Basic License has a defined editorial scope and one-year maximum.
- Promotional uses require separate agreement.
Best for
- Newsrooms and documentary researchers finding event-specific visuals
