What it does
Flame Painter draws with particle brushes and keeps individual strokes editable on vector layers. Brush construction, SVG import and layered PSD exchange support effects work.
For a light trail, draw the path on a vector layer and then change its brush preset, particle system, colour or opacity. Each vector layer holds one editable stroke: drawing another replaces the previous one. Add a separate vector layer for each trail you want to retain.
Keep the path editable
SVG import can turn existing paths into vector layers. The Brush Creator changes shape, texture, gradient and behaviour, while the path editor moves or adds vertices. Store the native FPA file to retain all artwork information; PSD carries layers into another image editor.
Flame, Follow and Ribbon systems are included, with Liner, Elastic and Fuzzy sold as add-ons. The desktop application is a one-time purchase for Windows and Mac, and activation requires an internet connection.
Strengths
- A stroke’s treatment can change after its path has been drawn
- Imported SVG paths provide a starting point for particle effects
Watch out for
- Each editable stroke needs its own vector layer
- Additional particle systems are separate purchases
Best for
- Light trails, textured strokes and effects in larger compositions
