What it does
Europeana brings together digitised art, photographs, books, films and music from cultural institutions. It provides free discovery across collections, with individual rights statements for media and CC0 terms for the descriptive metadata.
The main search bar searches titles, descriptions and other metadata. Put an exact phrase such as "Art Nouveau" in quotation marks, then narrow results by media type, country or theme. To search words inside digitised documents instead, open Show Advanced Search and select Full-text from the Field menu.
Use Can I use This? to separate freely reusable items, items with conditions and material needing permission. Still read the statement under the displayed image: a single record can contain media with different rights. Follow the contributing institution’s record when you need fuller information or its download options.
An optional account saves favourites and galleries of up to 100 items. When creating a gallery, select Keep this gallery private if you do not want it visible through a public link.
