What it does

Expense IQ combines personal account balances, transactions, budgets, reports and bill reminders on Android. A free app with ads is available; Premium adds unlimited accounts, Cloud Sync and a web companion. Web sign-in pairs the browser with the Android phone.

Keep a one-off project, such as setting up a home office, with its own spending and budget so it does not disappear into a general monthly total. Expense IQ presents project budgets alongside ordinary accounts, recurring bills and reports. Accounts can use different currencies.

For the first purchase, tap the add button, choose an expense and select the account used to pay. Enter the amount, payee or description, category and date, then save. Recent Transactions provides a quick check that the entry reached the right account. Open the existing record to correct a mistake; adding another version would leave both in the history. A transfer between your own accounts is recorded separately from spending.

Moving from phone to computer

The web companion requires Premium and Cloud Sync on the Android device. Set up sync with the intended Google account and let it finish. Open expense-iq.com/app on the computer, then use the phone’s scan function to scan the pairing code and approve the browser. An expired code needs to be refreshed before scanning again.

When adding another device, use the same Google account and compare a familiar balance and recent transactions after synchronization. A dated backup provides a recovery point separate from changes shared by sync. Starting from an empty phone requires care with any option that replaces cloud records.

The free Android app contains ads. Cloud sync and unlimited accounts require a paid Premium upgrade, and the app displays the current purchase options. Android phones and tablets and the web companion are available; iPhone and iPad editions remain labelled as coming soon.

Strengths

  • Project spending can be kept with a corresponding budget.
  • The web companion provides a larger view of accounts, budgets and reports.
  • Phone approval controls which browser is paired for web access.

Watch out for

  • Cloud Sync, unlimited accounts and web access require Premium.
  • Web access depends on an Android phone with Cloud Sync enabled.
  • iPhone and iPad applications are not yet available.

Best for

  • Android users tracking everyday spending and occasional projects
  • People who want to review phone-entered records on a larger browser screen
