What it does

Expenses by Blue Comet Labs records spending and income on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Its free version allows three sheets and includes receipt scanning plus CSV and PDF tools, without creating an Expenses account. Pro adds iCloud sharing, more detailed statistics and multiple currencies within a sheet.

Start with a sheet

Create a sheet for records that belong together, such as everyday purchases or one trip. Open it, tap Add, then enter the amount, category and date. Total Balance can show today, a month, a year or a custom range. Pin frequently used sheets and archive older ones instead of keeping every sheet in the active list.

For an existing CSV, choose the destination sheet and file in the import screen. The required columns are Date, Category, Amount and Notes; Notes may be empty but the column must exist. Negative amounts represent expenses and positive amounts represent income. Resolve Review Categories prompts and check the entry counts before importing.

Free and Pro prices

Access Reference price What changes
Free US$0 Three sheets, All Items statistics and daily trends
Pro Monthly US$1.99 per month Full Pro features
Pro Yearly US$14.99 per year Full Pro features
Pro Lifetime US$39.99 once Full Pro features

Prices vary by country. Pro adds broader statistics and trend periods, iCloud sync and sharing, and currency choices within a sheet. Every participant in a shared sheet needs Pro access, either from a purchase or eligible Family Sharing. Use the recipient's iCloud-linked email for an invitation and ensure iCloud Drive is enabled.

Strengths

  • Widgets and Shortcuts can record entries and transfer money between sheets
  • Pro supports fixed transaction rates, custom fixed rates or daily refreshed exchange rates

Watch out for

  • CSV imports add new transactions, so repeating an import creates duplicates; images and recurring schedules are not restored
  • The publisher reports that Invite with Link can crash on macOS 14.5 or later and suggests inviting from iPhone or iPad instead

Best for

  • Apple-device users keeping a spreadsheet-like record of personal or shared purchases
