What it does

Expresii is a Windows painting system focused on Eastern watercolour and expressive brushwork. It simulates flowing paint and displays the virtual brush’s contact with the surface.

A brush loading can contain several colours across the tuft, together with a water level. Wetter marks spread through the simulated paper; tilting the surface changes their flow while you continue painting. The visible brush shape shows how its contact changes during a stroke.

Snapshot export turns the painting into an image for use elsewhere. Current output options include PNG, JPG, BMP and layered PSD, with alpha-channel support. Maximum dimensions depend on the GPU; the developer advertises up to 32,000 × 32,000 pixels, rather than a size every computer can reach. PSD blending can change the appearance, so keep the native artwork for further editing.

The direct Windows trial lasts 50 uses, while the Microsoft Store trial lasts 30 days. Without a licence, the app remains available but cannot save files. Mac and Linux routes require Windows compatibility software; iPad and Android devices can serve as pen displays rather than native Expresii apps.

Strengths

  • Surface tilt can change flowing paint in real time.
  • The brush contact shape helps explain a stroke.

Watch out for

  • Weak GPUs may not run the application properly.
  • PSD output can differ because layer blending is not identical.

Best for

  • Eastern watercolour studies
  • Expressive digital brushwork
